English as a Second Language (ESL)

Chester County Schools provides an English as a Second Language program for students who have a primary or home language other than English and qualify for services. These students receive specialized instruction to ensure that all students, regardless of language proficiency, have access to a quality educational program. This instruction correlates to the WIDA screener scores.

Our school district identifies these students using the Home Language Survey (HLS). The Home Language Survey must be completed by incoming Pre-K and kindergarten students. The HLS must also be given to any newly enrolled students who are not transferring from another school district from within the state of Tennessee. If a student is transferring from another school in Tennessee, the HLS is obtained from the prior school. If the HLS cannot be forwarded from the previous school in a timely manner, our district will then obtain a new copy from parent or guardian.

The Chester County School District complies with the TN State Board of Education, English as a Second Language (ESL) Program Policy 3.207.
